Character Interviews

Noor, as seen in J.M. Dover’s, “Finding Atlantis.”

This week, I interviewed Noor from J.M. Dover’s, “Finding Atlantis.”

C. Penticoff: “Hi, Noor. Why don’t you start by telling us a little about yourself?”

Noor: “By your definition I am a very old man, but there is no need to reveal my exact age. I am the leader of the council of Atlantis. Yes, Atlantis does exist, in another dimension, and with very limited access from Earth. So, you will have to trust what I am telling you is true.”

C. Penticoff: “I suppose I trust you. I’ve always wanted to go to Atlantis. Noor, what’s the worst thing that has ever happened to you?”

Noor: “The destruction of the continent of Atlantis. It was destroyed by volcanic eruptions and a tsunami when the continental shift happened 11,500 years ago. Hmmm, it seems I have just given you a clue to how old I might be.”

C. Penticoff: (laughs) “It seems as though you have. Now that we know the worst thing to happen to you, what’s the best thing that has ever happened to you?”

Noor: “Living on Earth for almost a year in the decade you refer to as the seventies.”

C. Penticoff: “Nice! I didn’t get the opportunity to live through the seventies, but if I could travel back to a time in modern history, I would choose the seventies. Anyway, on to the next question. What is your biggest regret in life?”

Noor: “I couldn’t be there to see my daughter grow up.”

C. Penticoff: “I’m sorry to hear. Maybe we should move on to some light-hearted questions. If you were a superhero, what super power would you possess?”

Noor: (Laughs) “If I lived on Earth I would be considered a superhero by your standards. I can pull energy from the Earth and harness it to do amazing things. You would call it magic.”

C. Penticoff: “Well, then I’m jealous!” (laughs) “Noor, do you believe in love at first sight?”

Noor: “Yes, I do.” (pause) “Hmmm, I suppose you would like some details. In Atlantis, we can view special parts of Earth through links in our library. The first time I saw Elise I knew I would have meet her. I was able to go to San Francisco, and I did talk to her. She was the reason I spent almost a year on Earth, and the rest, as they say, is history.”

C. Penticoff: “I don’t know how I feel about you spying on us, but next time you do that, could you spy in on over government and tell us what they’re up to?”

(Laughter)

C. Penticoff: “Noor, what’s the best present you’ve ever received?”

Noor: “I suppose it was both the best and the worst present. My grandson came to Atlantis because he was prophesied to save our fabled city. He didn’t want to be here, and it was because of me he had no choice in the matter. Still it was a wonderful gift for me to finally meet him.”

C. Penticoff: “That’s the most interesting way to meet your long lost family! I hope it turned out well. Let’s end with a thought-provoking question: What’s the one thing life has taught you?”

Noor: “Live one day at a time. The past you cannot change, and the future is not here yet. It is called the present because today is a gift.”

C. Penticoff: “Wise words, Noor. I couldn’t agree with you more! If we could all live in the everyone would be much happier and content with life. Thank you for your time, Noor.”
